Donate Life Anerica
Believe it or not, the unfortunate truth is that every ten minutes another person is placed on the national transplant waiting list. Around 8,000 people die every single year because there simply aren’t enough organ donors in place to meet demand. To put things into perspective not even the largest football stadium in the US could fit the number of people on the national transplant waiting list… sadly this just goes to show how many people are in desperate need of donations! Statistics like these may seem overwhelming, however, by becoming a donor, or getting involved locally you can make a HUGE difference.
If you want to become a donor or know someone who would like to become a donor then check out this awesome project called “Your Name Saves.” It’s a campaign that highlights the names hidden within a person’s name as a metaphor for all the lives one organ, eye, or tissue donor can save. Individuals can see exactly how many names are in their name at YourNameSaves.org.
When you connect with your Facebook account, the website will even highlight your friends’ names hidden within your name and tag those friends on Facebook—showing how registering as a donor could someday even save those who you may know.
By becoming an organ donor, you can save not just one, but up to eight lives! In 2015, 30,000 transplants brought new life to patients and their families. 655,000 transplants have taken place since 1988, how cool is that! There are so many ways that you can get involved, find out how HERE!
