Why Your Kids (& You) Will Love Osmo!

With the Holiday Season right around the corner, most of us are trying to find just the right gift for our kids. It is so easy to get caught up in the commercialism of how much is on display in stores, on commercials, and on the internet. I don’t typically endorse products, but this is one I think is special enough where I wanted to share it with all of you. Like most parents, I try really hard to find technology products that are worthwhile—not a waste of money OR time. Last, Christmas, my kids received the Osmo, which is an interactive educational game system for kids that connects through your iPad. It is recommended for ages 5-13. My 4 year old is able to play some of the games, but not all.

It comes with a base in which you set your iPad, a mirror (which enables the interactive quality of the game), a set of Tangram shapes, a set of Letters, and 3 free Apps to download. They recently introduced the Numbers game and I think you have to order that part separately. The entire system costs around $100.

So far, there are five games: Tangram, Words, Newton, Masterpiece, and Numbers. Tangram comes with wooden puzzle pieces that come in various shapes. The player has to create an object, such as a house, with the puzzle shapes. Words comes with letters and you have to spell the word when it shows you the picture. Newton requires you to use your creativity to draw objects to keep the balls from falling down. Masterpiece allows you to trace pictures. They can be simple, complex, or even ones you choose. Numbers has you use either dot or digit number tiles to solve math problems and make numbers.

My children love this game system. It allows the younger ones to learn by watching the older ones also. If you are looking for a new idea for a gift this holiday season, you can check out the product on playosmo.com.
