Gary Oldman Proposes To Wife As Winston Churchill, Wins Oscar For Role

An Adorable Proposal Story

During this video series, we get to see live interviews with some of the big name celebrities on the red carpet at the 2018 Oscars. It’s always fun to see celebs much more relaxed and natural, and that’s exactly what we get here. Actor Mahershala Ali discusses having a baby just a couple of days prior to winning his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Moonlight. We also get to hear what Sandra Bullock loves most about Oscar night. But perhaps the best story of all is Gary Oldman’s proposal story of how he proposed to his now wife, on set, in character. Talk about an actor’s dream!

“Well we had discuss it,” Oldman says as he recounts the epic moment. “Then I suddenly sort of got the urge, and I took her off to the mat room, asked her to marry me, she said yes, and then someone said, ‘Gary we need you,’ and I left her there.”

His wife, Gisele Schmidt, seemed to find the whole thing funny and laughed with Oldman as he told the story. So, not only did Oldman win the Oscar for Best Actor in Darkest Hour, for his portrayal of the late Winston Churchill, he won his gal too!
