A Gifting Guide For Those Hard-To-Shop-For Folks!

Christmas is rapidly approaching and we are all searching for just the right gifts for our loved ones. However, there are some people in our lives who seem to be harder to shop for the others. I find this category of people especially to be the grandparents of our children. They are at a point in their lives where they don’t seem to need or want a whole lot of “stuff”. What I find that relatives like these love the most are homemade or keepsake gifts.

The first way you can create one of these gifts is to go to a location that specializes in them. There are some shops that cater to just this type of gift. You can bring your children to a shop and get their handprints put on a mug, bowl, etc. Most of these places usually allow your child to decorate the item as well.

Another idea is to make a card or art project at home. With just a few inexpensive supplies, such as construction paper, glitter, glue, mini pom-poms, beads, etc., you can make a “masterpiece” that grandparents are sure to love. These are also ways for your child to give a gift to the special people in your life without having to spend extra money. Anything using handprints is a special hit! Here are some ideas: Candy Cane, Christmas Tree made of hand prints, and Gumdrops (a great way to include your little ones).

Another group of people who are hard to shop for are our child’s teachers. They are people who are with your children all day every day, but most of us don’t know the teacher on an extremely personal level. Although teachers appreciate any gift you are able to give, most teachers don’t need too many more painted apples or coffee mugs with their name on them. (Sorry- I know this is brutally honest!) As a former teacher myself I highly recommend giving gift cards. This way, the teacher is able to buy exactly what she needs or wants. You can even ask her what her favorite store or restaurant is, and get it from there to make it more personal.

This year, my daughter’s class is collecting gift cards for the teacher from all of her favorite stores and restaurants and hanging them on a mini-Christmas tree (I got the tree for $5 at Michaels!). The gift cards will be the ornaments on the tree. Additionally, heartfelt letters of appreciation and thanks were some of my most treasured gifts as a teacher. People taking the time to truly thank you for your hard work and dedication as a teacher are priceless!
