Valentine’s Day Festivities The Little Ones Will Love

Love is in the air! I would say that Valentine’s Day ranks number three behind Christmas and Halloween for kids. Therefore, this upcoming holiday is a big one if you have children between 2 and 20 in your house.

Love Filled Fondue

Fondue is something that you can make for both dinner and dessert! Cheese fondue is a delicious way to get your kids to eat healthy veggies and to make dinner extra special and fun. You do not need a special fondue set to make cheese fondue. All you need is a pot and some forks or wooden skewers for dipping your food into the cheese sauce. My kids’ top choices for dipping are steamed baby carrots, steamed broccoli, chunks of bread, steamed potatoes, steak tips, and some sliced meats such as salami.

Chocolate fondue is also another great way to make something extra special for your children or your significant other.

Other Yummy Valentine’s Day Treats
Another home-made way to show your love is to make chocolate covered ANYTHING! Pretzels, fresh and dried fruit, etc are all so yummy covered in chocolate. To make it more fun, bring out the sprinkles and have your kids decorate the freshly dipped concoctions.

Of course, I have to throw in a healthy treat, too. Strawberry smoothies made by blending strawberries, banana, plain yogurt, almond milk, and a little pineapple are another tasty Valentine delight!

Love Bug Snack Packs

Try something different. Rather than buying traditional Valentine cards for your children to share with their classmates, make these fun snack bag “Love Bugs” as your contribution to the Valentine’s Day party – half sweet, half healthy. Paint a clothes pin red (we added some glitter glue two ours), glue on googly eyes, separate snacks in half in a small plastic bag and clip in to make the “wings”, then add curled pipe cleaners for the antenna.

Hand Print Love Bugs

Kids love any fun Valentine art project. I always like making crafts with hand prints, as they are great keepsakes. These go a long way to impressing the grandparents, too! Paint your child’s hand and print it onto card stock paper. Cut out hearts for the wings, sparkly pipe cleaners for the antennae, and googly eyes. So simple and so cute!

Enjoy this special holiday with your children and family while making special gifts with love that don’t require you to spend a lot!
