The final Avengers film has done what many have already predicted and has become the highest-grossing film in opening weekend history. “Avengers: Endgame” debuted with $350 million in ticket sales domestically and $1.2 billion globally.

The final installment of Marvel’s superhero flick surpassed the historical threshold twice as fast as it’s predecessor “Avengers: Infinity War” which was able to reach the billion dollar mark in 11 days. “Though ‘Endgame’ is far from an end for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, these first 22 films constitute a sprawling achievement,’ Disney Chairman Alan Horn said.

In its first weekend, ‘Endgame’ outgrossed the entire domestic runs of 13 MCU titles, including “Iron Man,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Not only did “Avengers: Endgame” make grossing history, but it is also the second film in history to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras.

“This weekend’s monumental success is a testament to the world they’ve envisioned, the talent involved, and their collective passion, matched by the irrepressible enthusiasm of fans around the world,” Horn stated about co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

The demand for the ‘Endgame’ film was so high that Marvel released the film in 4,662 in the U.S. and Canada. More than any opening ever. To help accommodate, AMC kept some of their theaters open for 72 hours straight. With the film’s raving reviews it is likely that the MCU can expect ‘Endgame’ to rival the top three worldwide grossers: “The Force Awakens,” “Titanic” and “Avatar.”
