Beyoncé Applauds Michelle Obama’s Strength In Essay For TIME’s Most Influential

Former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama is one of the many public figures named in TIME’s 100 most influential people list and if you ask Beyoncé the title is well-deserved. In an essay written in the former FLOTUS’ honor, the singer called her “powerful.”

It is said that behind every successful man is a strong woman and Beyoncé made sure to applaud Obama’s strength throughout her eight years as First Lady. “She was strong and ambitious and spoke her mind without sacrificing honesty or empathy. That takes a lot of courage and discipline,” the singer wrote.

While making history as the country’s first African-American First Lady, Beyoncé acknowledges that Obama was more than just that. “She would’ve been impactful simply by being in the White House, the first African-American First Lady. But she also used her position of power to improve the world around her.”

This isn’t the first time the best-selling author has made the list. Though she hasn’t been named most influential 11 times as her husband has, Michelle Obama has been included on the list four times and was a finalist five times.

“I am so grateful that my daughters and my son live in a world where Michelle Obama shines as a beacon of hope who inspires all of us to do better and to be better.”
