Burberry’s New Collaboration With Vivienne Westwood Is A Celebration Of British Culture

Bella Breakdown

Vivienne Westwood and Burberry are two iconic fashion brands that have helped define British style, though in very different ways. Westwood broke onto the scene with a passion for punk, that combined with a musical revolution, made modern punk a staple of British culture.

On the other side of London, Burberry was becoming a classic in every British home. Their signature check print and chic, tailored styles burst onto the fashion scene and haven’t left in decades. So it’s only fitting that these two powerhouse fashion brands would join together and come up with something entirely unique, and entirely Brit.

The campaign encompasses every facet of British culture, including a unique cast of models, from Kate Moss to Sistren, a group that creates podcasts on the stories of queer black women. There’s a very 90s appeal to this collection, and a unisex approach that reflects the state of modern fashion.

The pieces are accessible to all, which echoes the very essence of the punk scene of the 70s and 80s. Anyone is welcome, and every voice has a place.

This collaboration is the first partnership overseen by Burberry’s newly appointed Creative Director, Riccardo Tisci. The project was announced in July, and is now available online and in select Burberry stores, with pieces starting at a reasonable $70.

The two fashion brands have also partnered to help the non-profit Cool Earth, which aims to aid rain forest protection and slow climate change. Proceeds the collection’s limited edition “Cool Earth” t-shirt will be donated to the non-profit.
