This week, Gillette razors released a new campaign with a controversial advertisement. Called “The Best Men Can Be” campaign, the ad references the #MeToo movement, and encourages men to stand up for women, and not make excuses for bad behavior.

“We believe in the best in men … to say the right thing, to act the right way,” the narrator states. “Some already are, in ways big and small. But some is not enough, because the boys watching today will be the men of tomorrow.”

The ad has the best of intentions, though some viewers were vocally against the campaign, saying it went too far, or was actually demeaning to the true purpose of the #MeToo movement. However, many people have come forward applauding the brand, and helping to show that the message is overall a good one.

“I’ve been using a men’s Gillette razor since I was 14,” said Chrissy Teigan. Gillette was the first major company to hire me when I was kind of known as a risky little b for brands. I still use a gillette fusion razor and I still get so much joy from a fresh blade. in closing, I love you, Gillette.”

“My son @CShriver573 just sent me this powerful ad,” Maria Shriver, 63, wrote on Twitter. “It gave me hope and chills. What about you?”

As the ad continues to air, viewers are anxious to see how audiences respond, and if it really will help spark change.
