If you’re hoping to fly with your emotional support animals you may want to look somewhere other than Delta Airlines. After banning pitbull-type of service animals, Delta has expanded their policy to no longer include support dogs of any kind on flights longer than eight hours.

“We will continue to review and enhance our policies and procedures as health and safety are core values at Delta,” said John Laughter, Senior Vice President of Corporate Safety, Security and Compliance. “These updates support Delta’s commitment to safety and also protect the rights of customers with documented needs —such as veterans with disabilities—to travel with trained service and support animals.”

Delta’s latest policy comes after an increase in reported incidents caused by a number of service and emotional support animals. According to the company, there was an 84 percent increase between 2016 and 2017, like an incident involving a support dog attacking a passenger. There are some exceptions to the policy for those with cats and dogs under four months and household birds.

For those still wanting to travel with their pets, the animal must be able to fit in an airline-approved pet carrier that can safely slide under an airplane seat, can’t weigh more than 40 lbs and the dog/cat cannot be a snubbed-nose breed.
