Doctors Are Warning Women To Keep Their Feet Out Of Platform Sandals

If you’re thinking about hitting up that new BOGO sale at your favorite department shoe store you might want to avoid platform sandals. Doctors are now warning women about the dangers of platform shoes due to the long-term effects it will have your back.

According to Dr. Hillary Brenner, a Manhattan-based podiatrist, the rigid heel soles can throw off the body’s gait stability which will could tweak your ankles. “Definitely stay away from this one,” the podiatrist advises.

“Nine times out of 10,” patients who wear the platform sandals visit her office for an ankle sprain,” says Brenner. Bad ankles aren’t the only problem someone wearing platform sandal can cause.

Due to the lack of proper alignment, a lot of strain on your back can become a problem the more you wear this particular shoe. When picking shoes, Brenner suggests making sure you can bend a shoe slightly with your hands. While sneakers may not be the first choice they do have their benefits. Due to its flexible sole, sneakers offer you the chance to shift your weight from your heel to the ball of your foot.
