Dognition: What Type of Genius is Your Dog?

Bella Breakdown

Dognition tests measure how our dogs think. Dogs are some of the smartest animals on the planet. They know how to communicate with humans, reading and responding to their cues.

They can learn hundreds of words, and some are known to attain an intelligence comparable to a three year old child. Different dogs have different types of intelligence, depending on their breed and how they are raised. A herder’s personality will be very different from a retriever’s, just as a social dog will be very different from an independent dog.

Brian Hare, an anthropology professor at Duke University, has spent time studying the different types of intelligence within a dog through cognitive ability tests. Through his research, he developed a service called Dognition.

Dognition uses interactive games and expert analyses in order to provide dog owners with a rich, detailed perspective of their dog’s personality. There are nine different profiles that Hare has identified: the ace, charmer, socialite, expert, renaissance dog, protodog, einstein, maverick, or stargazer.

If you are curious about how your dog thinks, why they act the way that they do, and what motivates them, then you should check out Dognition. Be ready to look at your little pup in a whole new light!
