There’s no denying that Friends is one of the most beloved TV shows of all time. However, while there are many great characters and episodes to love there is one character fans hated so much they booed them during filming.

While appearing on Today Lauren Tom, who played Ross Gellar’s girlfriend Julie during the second season, revealed that she did not receive a warm welcome during the series’ filming. “I wasn’t prepared for the amount of venom I was about to receive in a live audience where they actually booed my character,” she said.

“And, of course, I was trying very hard not to get my feelings hurt. So I had to get used to that. But I did understand intellectually that, you know, the audience was meant to be rooting for Rachel,” she added. Even Tom understand the pain from fans wanting the two characters together since even she was rooting for Jennifer Aniston’s character to get her man.

The fans may not have like Tom taking up Ross’ time, but the cast of the show at least welcomed her to the cast. “I still remember it was my birthday on my first day of rehearsal, and so they all took me out to lunch. It was very, very fancy, and it was so, so sweet of them to welcome me in that way.”

Tom’s role on the show didn’t last for long, but even though she shipped Ross and Rachel a part of her wanted Julie and Ross to work out. “Ross should’ve picked Julie. We would’ve been so happy with our cats! But I think Julie probably ended up with Russ, so I don’t think she did too bad.”
