Summer is a great time to spend quality one on one time with your kids. Here are some great ideas to keep them occupied and making the most of your time with them.
Encourage learning. This will ensure they don’t go back to school with “brain-drain” at the end of the summer. Create a reading log and incorporate small but fun prizes or make a certain time of the day “reading” time. It is a great time for them to learn, and for you to relax and take a break.
Make special things for each day of the week. For instance, every Wednesday is an ice cream day! This will give them and maybe even you something to look forward to.
Have them do chores. Giving each child an age-appropriate task will allow for a sense of responsibility and pride. Plus it helps you out and may give you more “fun” time with them later.
Organize snacks. Make them healthy too! That way anytime someone needs a snack, a healthy option is readily available in the fridge. Fruit and granola bars are great options.
Go to the local pool. Kids never get tired of swimming plus it is great exercise. It will also tire them out making bedtime a little easier.
Do not over-commit yourself. Send them to camp for a week. It will give you a much needed (and deserved) break and great entertainment for your kids.
Summer is great for all, but having a plan in place is important!
