Before Disney gained control of Fox’s Marvel films, the studio gave us multiple X-Men films making Hugh Jackman a household name. However, it almost didn’t happen for the award-winning actor because according to him he was almost fired.

During his London stop of his The Man. The Music. The Show Tour the actor revealed that the superhero franchise almost looked completely different possibly costing the star what would be his biggest break. “I was told that things weren’t really working out as they hoped,” Jackman told the London crowd on Monday night.

Jackman didn’t reveal exactly why the studio was looking to replace him, but he did admit that he did not take the news well. “I was angry, I went home to my wife and I complained. I was whinging an Olympic level of whinging to Deb, my wife, and moaning about this person and that person,” he said.

After an hour of whining on Jackman’s part his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, advised her husband to trust his abilities and stop thinking about what everyone else thought of him. Thankfully, the Australian actor listened to and he went on to play the Wolverine for 13 years. Finally saying goodbye to the comic book character in 2017’s Logan.

Despite opinions on Fox’s take on the comic book series, Jackman’s casting has undoubtedly been one of the best choices for the franchise.
