Jillian Michaels is the perfect example of getting older, but still looking and feeling young. Now, the former Biggest Loser trainer is sharing her secret to getting and keeping her flat abs.

While planking and ab workouts are great for getting that flat tummy of your dreams, but Michaels says her biggest trick to having a toned stomach is laying off the alcohol. We know this will be hard with summer festivities just around the corner, but it’s a sacrifice you’ll have to make.

“Don’t drink too much alcohol,” the fitness pro advises. “Really try to bring this to four drinks a week, tops.” That wasn’t Michaels’ only secret trick to getting abs of steel, but she says to do HIIT. Resistance training, functional fitness and circuit training to reduce overall body fat and burn more calories. She says HIIT is great for your gaining abs because it conditions the muscles underneath the fat so when you lose that top layer, your stomach will be toned.

“Functional exercises like push-ups, mountain climbers, planks. lunges with torso rotation, etc,” are all exercises that “burn calories and condition your core.”
