Keep Your Pets Safe And Happy Over The Holidays

Bella Breakdown

Pets are part of the family too, and when it comes to the holidays, there is a lot of chaos and a lot of mischief that your furry friends could get into. Of course you’ll want to follow some common sense rules, like keeping the low-hanging ornaments away from your cat, and keeping an eye on your pup when there’s chocolate around, but in order to keep the fur babies happy and healthy this season, follow these pet-approved tips!

Keep Candy and Bread Away
Other types of candy, not just chocolate, can be harmful to your pets. Make sure all that candy is stashed away, and if you have kids, put the candy in easily resealable containers. Bread and other grain products can also be damaging to animals if they have a grain sensitivity, or even if they consume uncooked dough. Yeast can cause gastric distention and even alcohol poisoning in animals!

Be Mindful of Your Decorations
We love fresh flowers and plants around the holidays, but if you have animals, beware of certain kinds. Poinsettias, lilies and amaryllises can make animals ill, and even evergreen needles can be dangerous if swallowed. Keep these plants out of the house or out of reach. Also be mindful of tinsel, a favorite among cats, which can cause severe problems if ingested.

Use Ribbon With Caution
Just like with small children, bows and ribbons can be a choking hazard. Avoid putting a decorative ribbon collar on your pet, as tempting as it is, and immediately pick up gift wrappings when you are done with them.
