Kevin Hart To Host Oscars For The First Time

It was newly announced that comedian Kevin Hart will be hosting the 91st Academy Awards for the first time. Behind the scenes, we will also see new producers this year, Donna Gigliotti and Glenn Weiss, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hopes to boost ratings following a decline over the past two years.

“I will be sure to make this years Oscars a special one,” the comedian wrote Tuesday afternoon in an Instagram post, adding, “now it’s time to rise to the occasion. I appreciate @TheAcademy for the opportunity. For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same…I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it’s suppose to.”

The Academy is making a few other changes this year, including making a greater effort to keep the program to three hours or just under. The program is notorious for running over time, leading to chaotic speeches and a rushed program. This year, six to eight of the 24 award categories will be announced over commercial breaks, with excerpts being aired later in the broadcast.

The 91st Academy Awards will air on February 24th, 2019 on ABC. For a sneak peak at this year’s Oscar predictions, check out this list!
