Learning To Be A Better Parent

Bella Breakdown

As a parent, you can’t help but question if you are doing things right to raise your child. We also can’t help but compare ourselves to other parents, in addition to comparing our kids to other kids. What is the old saying? Comparison is the thief of joy. It’s true, too. There are a few things that we can do with our kids that will not only help us feel like better parents, but will wholly benefit our children as well.

1. Self-Reflection
By being aware of our own thoughts and actions, we allow ourselves to reflect on how those thoughts and actions are affecting our children. Remaining conscious of our moods and how we are handling our reactions to certain behaviors our children have, is a great way to become a better parent.

2. Let Your Children Be
I don’t mean leave them alone to their own devices. I mean, understand that your children are very well going to have different thoughts and interests than you will. Do not pressure them into being something they are not. Nurture their interests, and guide them into being who they want to be as long as they are being kind and considerate of their fellow human being.

3. Engage With Them
Reading, talking, playing, and singing especially within the first five years is imperative to a child’s development. By actively engaging your child, not only are you benefiting brain development, you are creating a lasting bond with your child.
