The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle made a surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards which held on Monday night. She was in attendance at the award ceremony to honor Clare Waight Keller, the creative director at Givenchy and also the designer of Markle’s wedding dress for her wedding.

Markle revealed to the audience that she was “thrilled” to be in attendance, celebrating British fashion designers “in my new home of the UK.” She also announced Clare as the winner of the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award.

Clare Waight Keller in her acceptance speech revealed how she met Meghan and how a special connection and relationship was stirred up during the design phase of the dress the Duchess wore for her Royal wedding to Prince Harry back in May.

She also revealed how she worked closely with Meghan for five months on the wedding dress as it was just the both of them and no one else was involved. This afforded Keller to get to really know Meghan Markle on a personal level and she also said in her speech that she cherished those five months.

Keller has only been with Givenchy for about seven months and the award came to her as a shock considering that she just started out at Givenchy. She described receiving the award as a wonderful and extraordinary experience and she admitted that she did not expect it in the least.

The proud winner of the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award then took to her Instagram page to share pictures of the exciting evening as she posed with several other designers.

It was a night of glitz, glamour and a star-studded award ceremony.
