Netflix Has Plans To Ditch Georgia Over “Heartbeat Bill”

Bella Breakdown

Netflix has been always been the first in the entertainment industry since its launch in 1998. Now, the streaming service is leading the pack once again by speaking out against Georgia’s “Heartbeat Bill.”

While Kristen Wiig and a few production companies have taken their films out of the state major Hollywood studios don’t seem to want to do the same. According to a statement published on Variety, Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said that the streaming platform would have to “rethink [its] whole investment in Georgia if the bill is signed to law.

Variety confirmed that it did reach out to other major studios to comment on the anti-abortion ban, but studios like The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Amazon did not respond. “We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Sarandos said. While Netflix may punish the southern state if the law goes into effect, but it may cost them.

With the quantity of content Netflix plans to dish out that will star many celebs from the A to the D-list, the streaming site may not to give up those tax subsidies that Georgia offers. Not only that Also with Disney planning to launch its own streaming service and taking the Marvel, Disney and Pixar content with them Netflix might soon see a loss in profit. A loss that will make them want to save as much money as possible.
