New Baby, No Sleep

Bella Breakdown

Welcoming a little one into the world is the beginning of some of the biggest changes to occur in your life. Everything is new to not only the baby, but to you as well. There is a brand new way of going about your day to day, and one of those things is the way in which you sleep.

You might have thought you were a morning person, maybe even a night owl. You thought it was pretty impressive that you could function on less than 8 hours of sleep. Well, think again, because you are losing a lot more sleep with your brand new baby then you could’ve imagined.

A study of 2000 new parents showed some crazy data about just how little sleep they’re actually getting. It was said that the average 6 hours a night adults typically get to sleep, dropped to just 4 hours when they became new parents. They also reported how often they had been told they “looked tired”.

Which is always a nice, pointless sentiment. When asked what the most difficult thing about being a new parent was, a large percentage of the group answered that it was the lack of sleep that got to them the most. You are definitely not your best when you’re tired, but there isn’t much choice when you’re a parent.

I always tell myself I’m going to get my son back when he’s a teenager and has to get up early for school. I’m counting down the minutes.
