Online Breakup Rules

Bella Breakdown

No, I am not going to teach you how to break up with someone online. I do not condone simply changing a relationship status to let someone know you’re through. We don’t advocate for horrible people here. However, I will tell you there are certain rules to follow when you’ve broken up with someone, and the majority of your relationship has been posted online.

We are all guilty of it, posting pictures and writing sappy posts about how much we love someone we are in a relationship. However, some relationships end, so what is the right way to deal with your breakup when most of our lives are displayed online?

1. Take a break from social media. Go dark. You might be tempted to stalk your ex’s every move on social, and that might be too hard to handle, especially if you find out they’re already hanging out with someone else.

2. Unfollow or block your ex on all accounts. It is way to tempting to stay friends with them just so you can keep tabs on what they’re up to. Our parents never had to deal with this. Usually if they broke up with someone, they weren’t seeing their every social media move. Not seeing someone makes them a lot easier to get over.
