Selena Gomez Speaks Out About Her Mental Health Battle

Selena Gomez has been open over the years about her health struggles, and battles with mental health. She was diagnosed with Lupus, underwent a kidney transplant, and went through bouts of severe anxiety and panic attacks. Now, she is reaching out to others who might be affected by similar things, and standing up for herself and her decisions, which have proved to be helpful for her healing.

“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” the 26-year-old wrote on Instagram. “Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth. It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming.”

Gomez took a break from social media in the fall of 2018, hoping to rejuvenate and seek treatment outside the stressful world of the internet.

“As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given,” she wrote at the time. “Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody’s feelings. Obvi.”

She is now out of rehab, doing well and has been seen with lots of friends and family.
