‘Star Wars’ Fans Get The First Look At New Film

Bella Breakdown

Fans were in for a treat this past weekend when the first trailer for “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” dropped during the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. During the film’s panel on Saturday J.J. Abrams along with Daisy Ridley, Billy Dee Williams, John Boyega and more of the movie’s main cast were present for the special release that left fans both excited and wondering what was next for the long-running franchise.

For those still reeling over the loss of ‘Star Wars’ icon Carrie Fisher, there is no need to worry because she will be making an appearance. “You don’t recast that part and you don’t suddenly have [Fisher] disappear,” Abrams said during the panel. The late actress’ scenes will be pieced together using unused footage from “The Force Awakens.” Someone else making an appearance will be the film’s returning villain, Palpatine.

The evil emperor will make his return and some new trouble for the film’s heroine Rey, played by Ridley, and the rest of the Resistance. The ninth installment of the “Star Wars” franchise will also include the debut of a new character, Jannah, played by Naomi Ackie.

While it is unknown what part Ackie’s character will play some fans are already thinking that she has direct ties to Lando Calrissian. “He could have children all over the universe!” Ackie responded when asked if she will be playing Williams’ daughter in the upcoming movie.

“Rise of Skywalker” doesn’t theaters until December 20, 2019, but you can learn more about the film in the video above.
