Taylor Swift joins the fight against anti-LGBTQ laws and teams up with advocacy group donating $113,000. The song-writer donated over $100k to the Tennessee Equality Project that fights anti-LGBTQ laws within the state.

The leader of the group, Chris Sanders, announced Swift’s donation through Facebook on Monday. He stated, “Taylor Swift has been a long-time ally to the LGBTQ community. She sees our struggle in Tennessee and continues to add her voice with so many good people, including religious leaders, who are speaking out for love in the face of fear.”

Swift included a personal hand-written note with her donation that was featured on the Facebook post. The note said, “I’m writing you to say that I’m so inspired by the work you do, specifically in organizing the recent petition of Tennessee Faith leaders standing up against the ‘state of hate’ in our state legislature. Please convey my heartfelt thanks to them and accept this donation to support the work you and these leaders are doing. I’m so grateful that they’re giving all people a place to worship.”

As a long-time advocate of the LGBTQ community, Swift hopes that her contribution will help the LGBTQ community. In October 2018 Swift publicly criticized Tennessee Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn for her anti-LGBTQ views.

Swift posted on Instagram, “[Blackburn] believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values.”
