Now that summer is finally here and we can enjoy the many festivals and outdoor barbecues it’s time to get our summer drinks ready. To help prepare you, Whole Foods has listed the alcoholic trends that they expect to take over this season.

For beer lovers, “innovative IPAs will be all the rage this season. That means you can expect to see IPAs in the form of milkshakes, bruts, and other weird inventions to make brands stand out against competitors.

If beer isn’t your first drink of choice, but wine is. There’s going to be some summer trends for you, as well. Whole Foods claims that Oregon Pinot Noir is going to be a wine lover’s favorite. According to the grocery chain, “In 2018, Oregon wine grew 16 percent, compared to the total wine category growth of less than 3 percent.”

Another trend that you’ll begin to see this summer, and perhaps even before then, is the equal balance of alcohol and fitness. “Two years ago, shoppers would be hard pressed to find their favorite bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay or Rosé in a lower-calorie option,” Whole Foods explains. “Now, brands like FitVine (less than a gram of sugar per glass) and Cense (85 calories per 5fl/oz) are taking the industry by storm by offering wines catering to consumers trying to live healthy and active lifestyles.” It’s a business strategy that Whole Foods says is now happening in the beer world.
