So you’re finally retired and wondering what places you should visit with your free time. Lucky for you, Southern Living has helped you out and has released a list of the best southern places to visit during retirement.

Charleston, South Carolina
If you’re an American history buff then Charleston is the perfect place to visit. With its cobblestone streets, old churches, buzzy restaurant scene and waterfront views this place has something every Southerner should experience at least once.

New Orleans, Louisiana
While New Orleans is a place everyone should visit. The southern city is a particularly good place to tour while in retirement. The food alone will make you not want to leave, but once you experience the cities historical music scene and the French Quarters you’ll definitely want to come back for more.

Apalachicola, Florida
While this city may not be the first to come to mind, but if you’re in retirement a visit here is a must. Apalachicola, part of Florida’s Forgotten Coast, is famous for its bay oysters, which boast a pleasing mellow taste and robust plumpness and are best served with an ice-cold beer.
