Bella Breakdown

Looking to eat healthier and live healthier this year? Then, I’m certain you have been told to eat more fiber, and we are here to second that. It’s not always always pretty or fun to talk about, but one of the factors of overall health is healthy bowel movements. Anyone who has had digestive or constipation issues knows, it’s not comfortable and it makes you feel awful. Fiber has many benefits, including helping with regular and healthy bowel movements. It also helps with blood sugar levels and cholesterol levels, so it’s basically amazing.

According to the Mayo Clinic, men younger than 50 should be eating 38 grams of fiber per day and men older than 50 should be eating 30 grams. For women who are under 50, it’s 25 grams and women over 50 it’s 21 grams. To make it easier to digest, here are some fabulous fiber-friendly foods to start incorporating in your diet if you haven’t already:

High fiber breakfast cereals are a great way to start the day off with some much needed fiber, but make sure to look out for excess sugar in cereals.

Legumes are an easy and great way to mix in more fiber. Whether you add them to soups, salads, or eat them alone, they are versatile and packed with fiber and protein.

Whole grains, fruits and veggies are also great sources of fiber. Eat up, and keep up with your healthy fiber intake this year!
