This Fast Food Chain Is Moving Towards Healthier Options

Bella Breakdown

Fast food is fast food, there’s just no getting around that. There will always be some sort of negative to the fast food restaurants as their main goal is not health, but rather getting people food and fast! But, that doesn’t mean some of the large fast food chains aren’t adding items to their menus that are healthier options. Taco Bell has been in the news as of late, and for good reasons…this chain wants to give its customers some healthier options, rather than just the run of the mill fast food menu.

Taco Bell is up there as one of the healthiest fast food chains. It has reduced sodium across its menu by 15% since 2008, and got rid of artificial flavors and colors, opting for natural alternatives instead. It also removed trans-fat, high fructose corn syrup and unsustainable palm oil from its menu. Good work, Taco Bell! The well-known chain also added a “Fresco” menu, which is known as their healthier options menu. This menu includes vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, and is certified by the American Vegetarian Association. But, as said earlier, it should still be taken with a grain of salt. Nutritionist of Tried and True Nutrition Inc., Pamela Bonney, says that you shouldn’t jump fully onboard just yet.

“It’s still a fast food chain,” Bonney says. “So even the simplest ingredients are highly processed and full of preservatives, but they deserve credit for their efforts to offer the healthier choices for an occasional convenient meal.”
