Two Gun Control Measures Are Passed By The House

Bella Breakdown

On Thursday, the House of Representatives voted on two major gun control policies, both of which passed without objection and with flying colors. This is the first time gun control laws have passed the house in decades, and it most likely occurred due to the higher number of democratic representatives.

The first policy is a bipartisan background check act that requires background checks for all people buying guns. This act will end up limiting the sale of guns from certain vendors, such as online and gun show vendors.

The second piece of legislation, the Enhanced Background Checks act, increases the background check review period from 3 days to 10 days, due to the fact that people could buy a gun if a background check had not been processed within three days. This act would give reviewers more time to process the background checks so that people can’t buy guns before the check is complete.

The bills are likely to fail in the Republican led senate, but many democrats are still looking at the passing of the bill as a win, because there hasn’t been any movement toward gun control in spite of many mass shootings.
