Warning Signs You’re At A Bad Restaurant

Dining out at a restaurant can be an enjoyable experience if you choose the right place to go. While Yelp makes it easy for you to do research on a restaurant before going the reviews can’t always be 100% honest. So, here are the warning signs you should look for to know you’re at a bad restaurant.

If nobody greets you when you walk in, you should walk right on out and find a new place to eat:
Most fine dining restaurants have a host or hostess that will welcome you as soon as you arrive. Not only will they greet you, but you’ll also be shown to a table or give you a wait time. Your first impression of the host should give you a clue into what you can expect from the restaurant.

If a server doesn’t come to your table within five minutes you may be getting bad service:
A server that gives you time to settle into your table and maybe give you a chance to look at the drink menu is doing their job. Even when the restaurant is super busy, a good server will at least introduce themselves to you and let the customer know they’ll be back to take their order shortly.

However, a poorly managed restaurant would not be that accommodating. “That’s the number one no-no as a restaurant,” said hospitality consultant Dennis P. Gemberling. “It just speaks to the lack of supervision, lack of training and lack of putting the customer first.

If the menus are dirty, the rest of the restaurant is too:
A good restaurant staff that has been trained properly will know that wiping menus is just as important as wiping off tables and chairs. “If they’re not keeping the menus clean, they’re probably not keeping the restrooms clean,” Gemberling said.
