If you are looking to step your instant-game up while losing weight, then this foodie trend is for you. Tactile foods are foods that are pretty to look at, while being interesting to munch on. Many have found this food trend appealing as it provides different types of textures, making it a fun meal that’s pleasantly noisy. Other than being fun to eat and a good way to gain more followers on Instagram, tactile food could get you more healthy while losing weight. A small study was done in British preschools, where the preschoolers were allowed to play with their fruits and veggies. Those who were allowed to play with their food were more than willing to try eating them afterward, despite those kids being notoriously picky eaters. Researchers have concluded that, “eating is a multi-sensory experience, and the way foods are eaten affects our ability to enjoy them.”

“Food that satisfies your visual perceptions, as well as taste and aroma, and that provides textural interest is more likely to be satisfying,” explains Martine I. Scannavino, DHSc, RDN, chair of the Department of Nutrition at Cedar Crest College.

Putting all of these textures and colors together forces you to naturally slow down and appreciate the meal which is rich in health benefits. A study in the Journal of Physiology & Behavior suggests that when we eat too quickly, we don’t get a chance to taste our food which makes it less satisfying. So having a tactile meal is a good way to practice mindful eating which, in turn, has been shown to help with weight loss. So go ahead and get your Instagram game up while enjoying a tactile meal because after all, scientists say it’s good for you!
