The annual Fashion Awards is like the Oscars of fashion. The biggest names turn out, the outfits are glamorous and gaudy and the tensions are high as designers compete for their recognition. The ceremony took place at London’s Royal Albert Hall, and was hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall and model-activist Alek Wek. With Swarovski as a partner this year, you best believe the evening was decked out in diamonds and sparkle galore.

Richard Quinn won the award for British Emerging Talent Womenswear, only 11 months after making his debut at London Fashion Week. One of the biggest surprises came not in the form of an award, but its presenter. Meghan Marckle surprised the entire audience by making an appearance to present the British Designer of the Year Womenswear award, given to Clare Waight Keller at Givenchy.

Women designers were highly celebrated over the course of the evening, with Miuccia Prada receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award, presented by Steve McQueen and Uma Thurman. She now joins the ranks of Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace.

“We are thrilled to honor Miuccia Prada for being an incredible design maverick and for spearheading the evolution of the Prada group from a family business to a global brand,” said Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council.

Another woman who has made great strides both in fashion and in civil change, was Dame Vivienne Westwood. She was presented with the Swarovski Award for Positive Change, highlighting her years of dedication to humanitarian and environmental change. Her recent collaboration with Burberry was a testament to her positive impact on British culture and positive influence worldwide.
