Serena Williams On Marriage, Motherhood And Her Health Scare

Serena Williams opens up about such topics as the health scare she had giving birth to Alexis Olympia Ohanian, her daughter with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. “I love her so much,” Williams says. Serena Williams, the tennis icon, holds 23 Grand Slam titles – just one shy of the record. However, her life off the court is what is getting the most attention lately. Serena always wanted to be a mom and get married. She tied the knot with Alexis in September, 2017. This was just two months after the arrival of their daughter Alexis Jr. It has been a whirlwind year and a half for Serena, who was surprised to discover that she was expecting just two weeks before the 2017 Australian Open. Despite not feeling her best, she powered through the matches and walked away with yet another championship title when she was 8 weeks pregnant!

A large part of Serena’s year was captured on film for the new HBO docu-series ‘Being Serena’. The series came about because Serena’s dad had lots of footage of both she and her sister Venus. They always enjoyed looking back and watching this footage. She wanted to do the same for her own daughter. However, Olympia‘s birth was not without complications. After an emergency C-section, Serena developed a pulmonary embolism and a blood clot in her leg. She then went on to become a paid spokesperson for Embrace Scar Therapy. Embrace releases the tension of the incision, therefore reducing the amount of scarring after a C-section. Just eight weeks after giving birth to her daughter, Serena picked up a racket again, going on to beat her sister on the court.
