‘Avengers’ Actress Under Fire

We gotta change the name of the website to “Whoa Scarlett” now…

Controversy has struck again for the Black Widow actress as she teams up with director Rupert Sanders for another casting nightmare… I mean “film.”

First, it was the white-washing ridiculousness of Johansson playing the lead role in a live-action version of the hit Japanese manga “Ghost In The Shell.” Fans criticized her portrayal, citing Sanders’ decision to not use an actress of the same culture from which the original work took place.

Now, Scarlett Johansson will be taking on the role of a transgender man in a new film called “Rub and Tug.” As much as I would love to explain the plot of the movie, I feel the need to explain absolutely everything wrong with this casting instead.

First off, there are transgender actors and actresses who are being denied roles in movies as is. “Sense8” actress Jamie Clayton tweeted about the controversy, saying that the small amount of trans people actually being cast in Hollywood are only being cast in transgender roles. They never get the chance to star as anything other than trans, and with Johansson’s casting here, even that has been denied to the people in Hollywood who know the real experience of being transgender.

Scarlett only fueled the flame by responding to her criticisms, citing the fact that Jefferey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman have each previously portrayed transgender people on screen despite not actually being trans.

Just because someone did something in the past doesn’t justify doing it again in the future!

Don’t get me wrong, I love her in Avengers, I think she’s a sexy superstar, but she seriously needs to stop getting sucked into these roles, or it could spell her downfall.
