Dermatologists Don’t Approve Of Green Sunscreen

Bella Breakdown

Hawaii recently banned sunscreen brands with certain chemicals such as oxybenzone and octinoxate. These chemicals hurt the coral reefs and marine life. While environmentalists are excited about Hawaii’s protection plan, dermatologists are not so pleased. Sunscreens with harmful chemicals are effective because they block UVA and UVB  rays. The ‘green’ sunscreen that acts as a replacement is feared to not be as effective.

As Hawaii has the highest amount of melanoma diagnoses’ in the country, dermatologists fear that with this new ‘green’ suncreen, that number will rise. Environmentalists are applauding the new legislation and argue that people need to be educated on the proper way to apply this new sunscreen. Once people are educated, it should be just as effective as the chemical induced brands.

Either way, don’t forget to apply your sunscreen on your next visit to the beach!
