Lady Gaga To Perform For Lupus Research Virtual Fundraising Event

The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) will be hosting a virtual fundraising event that will help raise awareness of lupus for the global lupus community. The evening will feature special guests including a performance by Lady Gaga.

Gaga wanted to perform for such a special cause that has impacted her family as her aunt Joanne passed away from lupus before Gaga was born. Gaga’s aunt Joanne was a young woman who was diagnosed with lupus during a time when lupus was less known with little research.

Gaga dedicated her fifth studio album ‘Joanne’ and her hit single dedicated to the aunt she never had the chance to meet. In Gaga’s Netflix documentary “Gaga: Five Foot Two” she explains that her aunt was diagnosed during a time where there were less research and treatment options that led to Joanne passing away.

Gaga is a long-standing advocate of the LRA and is excited to be benefitting a charity that is close to her heart. The virtual fundraising event will feature a list of celebrity appearances including Selena Gomez.

The young singer/actress revealed quietly in 2015 her Lupus diagnosis and received a kidney transplant at 24 due to lupus-related organ damage. Selena’s longtime friend Francia Raisa was tested to be a match and donated one of her kidneys to Selena.

Selena will be sharing her story while raising awareness for lupus research along with other guests including philanthropist Michael R. Bloomberg and Super Bowl Champion Willie Colon. Along with Gaga’s performance, the Broadway star Norm Lewis will be performing a solo.

The 2020 LRA Virtual Fundraising Event will also be honoring the LRA Board of Directors Co-founder and Managing Partner of Solamere Capital LLC, Jenny and Spencer Zwick. The online event will be streamed on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. EST on lupusresearch.org and it’s free to register for the virtual event.
