It’s always fun to find out who was really a teenager when cast in a teenage role, or who was really good at acting like a teenager. Here are some actors who were cast in popular teenage roles, but were really in fact, much older:

Troian Bellisario from Pretty Little Liars was actually 24-years-old when she portrayed a high school junior.
Minka Kelly from Friday Night Lights played a high-schooler, but she was 26 when the show premiered!
Rachel McAdams played her infamous Regina George “plastics” role in the movie Mean Girls, where she was high school royalty. In real life, though, McAdams was 25.
Gabriele Union played a high-school student in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You while she was 26 years old.
Chad Michael Murray got his start playing the 16-year-old Lucas on the show One Tree Hill, but Murray was in fact 22.
Alan Ruck played high school teen Cameron in the cult classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but he was 29 in real life!
