6 Tricks for Dealing With Bratty Kids

Got some punk kids? Or just know some? Well, we’ve got some interesting and effective pointers on how to reign in those rogue kids.

1. Time Them
There is nothing like setting a time limit to get those kiddos in gear. Either an egg timer or a good old fashioned sand timer will do the trick.

2. Pay Them
Use the coin system and set tasks for each coin’s value. Certain tasks earn a penny, others earn a nickel, so on and so forth. This not only a great way to get your kids to do what you want, but there are also some valuable lessons about money and math to be learned.

3. Instigate (Healthy) Sibling Rivalry
Ok we’re not saying you should induce an all out war between your kids or anything, but a little healthy competition might help get things done a little faster.

4. Bride Them (Look away now Dr. Phil!)
While bribery is illegal in real life, in the land of parenting it’s a perfect legit move. So go ahead and exchange ten more minutes of TV time for a clean plate at supper, your kids may even pick up some shrewd deal making moves along the way.

5. Scare Them
Not to the extent that you’ll cause nightmares of course, but we’ve gotta say the old “Santa is ALWAYS watching you” line is pretty effective albeit creepy.

6. Reach Into the Future
Your kid is never going to remember that you promised to take him or her to Legoland 10 years into the future so go ahead. When your kids are young they don’t have a good grasp on the concept of time, so use that to your advantage while you can.

These tips may not make it into the “Best Practices for Parenting Handbook” anytime soon, but when it comes to raising children you have to use the tools you’ve got. Plus, you know what they say “All’s fair in love and parenting”.
