Well, Memorial Day Weekend may have just been ruined due to a meat recall because of E. Coli. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that 62,000 pounds of raw beef were contaminated at the Aurora Packing Co. in Aurora, Illinois.

The warning effects beef packaged on April 19th and have an establishment number “EST. 788” inside the USDA mark of inspection. According to the government site, short ribs, ribeyes, and briskets have all been included in the list of recalled products.

As of now, there have been no reports of “adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products,” the notice states. E. coli infections typically occur three to four days after consuming the germ, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. Severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting can result after five to seven days.

Though there have yet to be any reports, the USDA Food Safety and Inspection has classified the recall as a “Class 1.” Which means it is being considered a high health risk and a “situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
