Celebrities Are Using Their Names To Promote Gender Equality

A new letter calling for global gender equality is gaining attention including celebrity names, spreading more awareness to the cause. The international charity, One, including 140 celebrities have signed their names to the letter since publishing in March.

The letter coincides with Women’s Day, while aiming to bring awareness to the statistics of women who face gender inequality. The letter cites that 130 million girls who are not offered opportunities for education and the gender pay gap. The gender gap is wider for women living in poverty saying, “Poverty is sexist. And we won’t stand by while the poorest women are overlooked.”

Stars who have signed the letter include Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Ryan Reynolds, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Bono, Tom Brady, and Zendeya. Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright signed as well.

The hope of this letter is to bring attention to world leaders of the issues of gender inequality, to give the idea to bring real change. With the growing attention surrounding women’s rights, people are taking action to bring awareness to the sexism in poverty.

This letter by One is open for anyone to sign with over 140,000 names so far, with their goal for 200,000.
