Celebrities Who Actually Hate The Annual Met Gala

The Met Gala takes place tonight hoping to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute with its annual fundraiser. While stars like Kim Kardashian, Priyanka Chopra, and Miley Cyrus will be in attendance there are others who wish to remain as far away from the fashion event as possible.

Marking the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit, many celebs are encouraged to dress according to the night’s theme. However, some people like Amy Schumer wasn’t a fan of playing high-fashion dress up.

After attending the gala in 2016, Schumer recalled her experience as feeling more “like a punishment” than something gratifying. “I left not the second I could. I left earlier than I should have been allowed,” she said in an interview with Howard Stern. “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation…I don’t like the farce,” added Schumer.

It shouldn’t be surprising that ‘Girls’ creator Lena Dunham isn’t a fan of the beautiful people ceremony either. Dunham took to her website to write a “Lenny Letter” about her experience and echoed Schumer’s disdain since the two were in attendance together.

“You and I were literally sitting across from each other at the Met Ball, and it was like a crazy countdown to when we could escape,” Dunham said in the deleted letter. Dunham’s terrible time became even worse after criticizing NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. for not giving her the attention she thought she deserved.

Funny girl Tina Fey attended the gaga in 2010 and hasn’t returned to the celebrity event since. The actress went as far as calling the Met Gala a “jerk parade” during an interview with David Letterman in 2015. “Every jerk from every walk of life is there, wearing some stupid thing … It’s just everybody, if you had a million arms, it’s all the people you would punch in the whole world.”
