Theme Park season has finally begun which means many families will be heading to places like Universal Studios and Disney theme parks. With those good times and fun memories will come a lot of overspending, but thankfully here are some ways to help you save during your trip.

Travel agent Lesley Sawhook advises that if you plan on visiting one of the Disney theme parks it is best to look for deals in September. According to Sawhook, the upcoming opening of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is going to make it harder for families to find good deals. She even advises taking the kids out of school early to take advantage of flight deals.

Staying in one of Disney’s fancy resorts may sound exciting when planning a trip it may not be too exciting for your budget. The traveling, Disney expert says that choosing an off-site hotel is just as good as staying closer to the park. It’s not like you’ll be spending a lot of time in the hotel room anyway, so just make sure there is a free shuttle to the parks.

For those avoiding the Disney park frenzy Sawhook says Universal Studios will be your best bet. With the new Harry Potter World rollercoaster, Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, opening Universal want to steer as many guests away from Disney as they can. “Universal and Disney in competition with each other are great for consumers. So right now Universal has some awesome discounts,” Sawhook says.

Staying on-site at Universal has its perks, as well, because guests will receive free fast passes. With the express pass, guests are able to cut the line and head to straight to the front giving you more time to explore the park and bang for your buck.
