Love really does find a way — even under the brightest of spotlights. Former GMA3 co-anchors T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach have announced that they’re officially engaged, three years after their high-profile romance rocked the morning show world and ended their run at ABC News.
The pair shared their exciting news on Tuesday’s episode of their Amy & T.J. podcast, cheekily titled “Robach-Holmes” with the simple description: “We are no longer girlfriend-boyfriend.”
“We are sharing with all of you that we are engaged,” said Robach, 52, on the podcast. “And we’ve been engaged for just about a month now.”
Holmes, 48, joked that they were a little late in making the news public, given how often Robach’s new ring had been on display. “We wanted to let you all know before anybody else was able to,” he explained. “We’ve learned that lesson in the past — we want to be the first to talk about our relationship. But honestly, it’s funny because Amy’s been out there flashing that ring in front of tens of thousands of people and somehow, no one said a word!”
Robach laughed, saying she had worn her engagement ring proudly for weeks. “I was in three massive football stadiums, three weekends in a row, wearing my ring and waiting for someone to ask about it. But no one did!” she said. “Maybe they were just being polite — the people close to us know what we’ve been through and don’t want to pry.”
It’s been quite the journey for the couple, whose relationship first went public in late 2022 when photos of them surfaced together off-set. At the time, Robach was married to actor Andrew Shue, and Holmes was married to attorney Marilee Fiebig. Although rumors swirled that their romance began as an affair, sources close to the two insisted they had already separated from their respective partners before dating.
Despite their efforts to keep things professional, the media storm that followed proved too big to ignore. Both anchors exited GMA3 and ABC News in early 2023. Still, Holmes and Robach remained together — and now, they’re planning a future as husband and wife.
In a twist fit for a modern love story, their exes, Shue and Fiebig, reportedly found comfort in each other and have since begun their own relationship.
On the podcast, Robach shared that she nearly revealed the engagement earlier on social media. “There was a picture I was going to post,” she said, “and T.J. pointed out, ‘Babe, your ring is front and center in that shot.’ So I held back. But honestly, anyone else could’ve posted one and given it away!”
Holmes added that they’ve spent the past month celebrating quietly with family and close friends. “If you hear anything about our engagement that didn’t come from us or our tight circle of ten people, it’s just made up,” he said with a laugh.
While the engagement news might have slipped past fans’ radar, one thing hasn’t — their happiness. Robach shared that even her mom noticed the glow. “When we were in Athens last weekend, my mom said, ‘Everyone was so happy to see you both so happy,’” she recalled.
After everything they’ve been through, it seems that happiness — and love — is exactly what the former anchors have finally found.
