‘Empire’ Star Jussie Smollett Was The Victim Of A Racist, Homophobic Attack

Bella Breakdown

Actor and star of Empire, Jussie Smollett, was attacked in Chicago on Tuesday. It’s reported that the actor was assaulted by two men shouting racist and homophobic slurs while restraining his neck and pouring an unknown chemical substance over him. The attackers allegedly referenced “MAGA country” in their assault.

“We are deeply saddened and outraged to learn that a member of our Empire family, Jussie Smollett, was viciously attacked last night,” 20th Century Fox released in a statement. “We send our love to Jussie, who is resilient and strong, and we will work with law enforcement to bring these perpetrators to justice. The entire studio, network, and production stands united in the face of any despicable act of violence and hate — and especially against one of our own.”

Smollett, 36, checked into the hospital for his injuries, but is apparently in good condition. Chicago P.D. are investigating the attack, and looking into the suspects. Smollett came out in 2015 on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show, and has since received several letters and hate mail, though none quite as violent as this encounter.

More information should be released within coming days on his condition and the state of the investigation.
