Sun’s Out, Fun’s Out: Top 5 Outdoor Summer Activities

Soak Up the Summer Sun With These 5 Outdoor Activities
There is only a short time left for school and the days are warming up. This is a time of year when we break out of our cold winter hibernation and get ready to enjoy the sunshine. How can we make the most of our summer and enjoy the great outdoors?
#1 Anything with water

Most kids (and grown-ups too) love to splash in water. During the hot summer months, it is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and keep cool at the same time. Water parks, tubing down a river, and kayaking (with a swim afterward) are all fun things to go and do. If you want a fun day at home, look no further than your own backyard. If you don’t want to purchase a real slip and slide, just pull out a tarp and a hose and voila’! You have your own. A lawn sprinkler is also another economical way for kids to have lots of fun with water. Other places to go are the beach or a lake near where you live. Pack a cooler and lots of sunscreen and you are set!
#2 Hike in the woods

Even on a hot day, a walk under the shady trees in the woods is a great place to be. It is much cooler than being in the direct sunlight. Enjoying the peace of nature is both great exercise and fun.
#3 Attend a fun outdoor event

Backyard or beach barbeques are so much fun, as is going to a drive-in movie, or an outdoor concert. Even simply making dinner and eating is outside on a cool summer evening is so delightful. Try and find as many outdoor events to go to and enjoy!
#4 Relax outdoors

Take the time to enjoy a great book you have been meaning to read. Find a hammock, under an umbrella at the beach, or any other shady area. Kick your feet up and unwind. This is also something fun for school age kids who can read. Setting up a cozy area for them to read is a great way to get a start on that summer reading list.
#5 Do outdoor projects

Whether it’s a messy art project, drawing with sidewalk chalk, or even washing the car (bonus for you!), there are many fun activities you can bring outdoors. This is especially fun for all of those cool science and art projects you have been holding off on for fear of making a giant mess in your house.
Whatever way you choose to enjoy the glory of summer, finding some fun in the beautiful outdoors is sure to make your summer lots of fun!
