Seriously, Wear What You Want

Bella Breakdown

As a female, we’re often inundated with articles and videos about finding the right kind of clothes for “your shape.” As if, at a certain size we’re no longer allowed to wear certain articles of clothing. Somehow our “shapes” have left us unable to just put cloth on our bodies. It’s a little bit ridiculous don’t you think? Why should our size dictate what types of clothes we want to wear?

For some reason it’s as though being anywhere over a size 8, means that you’re not allowed to wear tight fitting clothing, or short shorts, or crop tops. Why not? Am I going to allow someone who is not me, deems me ineligible to wear those clothes? Absolutely not. But somehow that’s how we’ve allowed society to treat women. If you were to line up, let’s say, 20 women who all weigh the same, they will not look the same. Some are taller, some are shorter, some will carry weight in different places, some will be muscular.

Women are often treated like cut-outs of one another, and if someone deviates from the cut-out they are not enough, or not allowed to wear certain fashions. Now that is, ridiculous. No two women are ever the same. It’s too difficult to find even two women whose body types are exactly the same. Stop pigeon-holing us to body types, and we’ll keep wearing what we want!
