The Best 1st Day of School Photo Opps

Every parent wants to commemorate the first day of school with a great photo. In order to creatively document this special day, try one of these fun ideas to create a memorable moment captured in time.

Make a video. This might take a few tries, but you can either interview your child or have them read a script about their upcoming year. Facts to include while they are talking might be their name, age, grade, school, teacher’s name, and any other fun facts you want to remember.

Take your child’s picture while holding a sign. One option for your sign can be that it simply says “First Day of ______ Grade”. Some parents like to add their child’s age, teacher’s name, the date and any other information they might want to share about their school year. Another idea using a sign is to write “Class of ______” on it and have your child holding it up in their picture.

Take your child’s picture on the first day of school and then on the last day of school and mount them side-by-side. Doing this allows you to see the progression of how much they have grown that school year.

Make a poster or sidewalk mural. You can do this either on a large sheet of rolled out paper with marker, or simply on the sidewalk with chalk. Spell out either your child’s name or their grade in large block letters and have them lay next to it. Take their picture while they are lying next to their decorated work.

Take their picture next to a reusable height chart. Write your child’s grade next to their height for the first day of school each year. Take a picture while having your child point to their current grade and height.

The first day of school only happens once a year. You will be thankful to have taken the time to preserve those memories for a lifetime, as well as to have as keepsakes to share with family and friends.
