How To Survive Valentine’s Day If You’re Newly Single

Bella Breakdown

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and if you’ve just gone through a breakup, or are maybe experiencing some time apart from your SO, it can be a difficult holiday to get through on your own. Rather than push it off until the last minute, it’s time to start your V-day prep now, so when the big day rolls around, you’re feeling powerful and inspired.

1. It’s Okay to Mourn

Embrace your feelings, don’t push them away. It’s okay to feel sad, lonely, broken, whatever it may be. In fact, you can channel those feelings and use them however you want this V-day. Want to sit and watch a sad movie and cry all night? That’s totally fine. Want to sing girl rock anthems and tear up pictures of your ex? That’s cool too.

2. Plan Something Fun

Don’t let yourself be alone unless you want to be. Plan to go out with some other single friends, or maybe even throw your own anti V-day, V-day party! What could be better than girlfriends, wine and a night of gossip. Or, if you are going to be on your own, take yourself on a date to the movies, or plan a nice meal for yourself. This holiday is all about love… self love!

3. Think About All the People You Love

Plan to reach out to your loved ones on this holiday and send some kind words, or maybe even a Valentine or two. This is a day to remember how loved you are, and to be surrounded by those who care about you. You have a lot of people who would love to hear from you! Forget all about the ex.

4. No, I Repeat NO, Communication With the Ex

If you got him or her a gift, return it and buy yourself something nice. If you’re craving some sexy time, get on Tinder and find yourself a hot date, but avoid texting or communicating with the ex at all costs. You will feel so much better for getting through the holiday on your own, and it will help tremendously with the healing process.
